Description
This is a plant I grew up with. As a kid with little interest in plants, I mostly remember the smell of rotting meat and flies swarming it. They came with the house my parents bought and they were planted right by the front door... nice welcome, lol! This was 40+ years ago and they've been blooming and giving that 'nice' welcome smell ever since. But their beauty makes up for the rancid smell they put off. The blooms are at least a foot long (not including the stems). I took this photo yesterday while visiting my dad. I've been an avid gardener for years now and have much more appreciation for these then when I was a kid and I have my own little patch growing from corms I took from this, but unfortunately they only have foliage this year (I planted the corms 2 years ago but they were small so I guess it takes a while for them to get established enough to bloom).
